However, the brothers quickly discovered that their new treat had found a niche in unexpected markets -- explorers appreciated its lightweight, nonperishable and nourishing qualities, taking malted milk on treks, and ice cream makers appreciated its intriguingly unique flavor and started mixing it into milkshakes, creating a scrumptious beverage to be enjoyed by people of any age! The tasty treat became such a success that in 1939, the first incarnation of the malted milk ball appeared, and it would only take a few more years until the crunchy, chocolaty new treats would earn their illustrious name -- "Whoppers."
